Kayiwa Samuel is a seasoned journalist and media consultant with over twenty years of experience working at the intersection of civil society, human rights, and democratic governance. He currently serves as Project Officer for Human Rights and Civic Engagement at Students for Global Democracy Uganda, where he designs, implements, and monitors programmes aimed at empowering Ugandan students to become active human rights defenders and civic leaders.
With a strong foundation in journalism and extensive experience in youth advocacy, Kayiwa is deeply committed to fostering democratic participation, accountability, and informed civic engagement. One of his notable achievements includes leading the successful training of over five hundred student leaders in human rights monitoring, significantly strengthening youth participation in governance and advocacy efforts across Uganda.
Throughout his career, Kayiwa has predominantly worked in roles centred on policy advocacy, editorial leadership, media relations, and public communications. He has extensive experience crafting communication strategies, managing media and public relations, and documenting organisational impact through videography and photography. His work has consistently contributed to improving the visibility, transparency, accountability, and overall effectiveness of civil society initiatives.
Kayiwa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from Makerere University and is currently pursuing a degree in Law at Cavendish University. At Global Divide, he brings deep practical expertise, strategic communication skills, and a strong commitment to advancing human rights, civic participation, and accountable governance.
