Sophie Tegang

Global South Coalition & Campaigns Officer
Community-led development
Social justice initiatives

Sophie Tegang is an early career professional and emerging leader with a strong commitment to social justice, peace building, and institutional development in Africa. She is currently completing an MSc in Global Leadership and Peace Building at King’s College London as part of a competitive Fellowship in Peace, Security, and Development in Africa with the African Leadership Centre.

Driven by the persistent governance challenges affecting her home country of Cameroon, Sophie is motivated by a deep concern for equity, accountability, and inclusive development. She is a firm advocate of bottom up approaches to development, grounded in the belief that sustainable change must be shaped by local agency and community leadership. Her work is particularly informed by a desire to amplify voices that are routinely excluded from formal policy and governance spaces.

Sophie brings growing experience in advocacy and multilateral engagement. She previously presided over a student led nongovernmental organisation during her undergraduate studies, participated in the World Youth Assembly in 2022 where she contributed to strategies on sustainable cities, and in 2023 addressed the 54th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on behalf of Law For Palestine and Al Bareem Association under Agenda Item 3 on promoting and protecting all human rights, including the right to development.

Alongside her academic and advocacy work, Sophie has dedicated much of her life to volunteering with small non profits supporting elderly people, refugees, and persons with disabilities. At Global Divide, she brings a strong ethical compass, a collaborative spirit, and a readiness to grow into complex policy and advocacy work, contributing meaningfully to the organisation’s mission of advancing just and inclusive global governance.
