Ayomide Michael Johnson is Policy Director and Strategy Lead at Global Divide. He is a doctoral student in Leadership Studies with reference to Peace and Security at King’s College London and holds a master’s degree in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights (cum laude) from the Geneva Academy, University of Geneva, Switzerland.
His research and practice focus on deploying multidisciplinary tools to assess the impact of international policies on grassroots movements in the Global South. With experience as a human rights lawyer and researcher across four continents, he has contributed to high-impact initiatives in collaboration with civil society organisations in Kampala, Arusha, Banjul, Lagos, and Cairo. He has also appeared before both domestic and international courts on matters ranging from inadequate budgetary allocation for child education to environmental justice for marginalised oil-producing communities. His recent academic work at the Geneva Academy (2023–2024) and at the European Conference on African Studies (Prague, 2025) explores the intersection of law, politics, and the rights of marginalised groups.
Ayomide has advised experts, led high-level advocacy, and engaged with global stakeholders on issues affecting vulnerable populations. In 2025, he led the United Nations Secretariat for the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in planning and organising its first public joint meeting with the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, which addressed the gendered impacts of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies on women and girls. He has also appeared on panels, including alongside UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, to discuss strengthening state implementation of human rights principles.
