Gender Justice

Natalia Fernández Rojas is a lawyer with over eight years of experience in civil law, gained both at a law firm and as in-house legal counsel for a public company in Chile. She holds a Law degree from the University of Chile and a master’s degree in Human Rights, Democracy, and International Justice from the University of Valencia in Spain, where she is currently pursuing a PhD in the same program. Fluent in Spanish (mother tongue), English, and French, she brings an international perspective to her work.

Shaped by the political and social history of Chile and Latin America, her professional path reflects a deep commitment to the defense and promotion of human rights. She has been actively involved in the Latin American feminist movement, using legal tools to dismantle the legal, institutional, and cultural barriers that hinder equality before the law, reproductive autonomy, and the full exercise of rights.

Since 2019, she has collaborated with grassroots feminist and human rights organizations, the Chilean Constitutional Convention (2021), and the UN CEDAW Committee in Geneva (2024–2025) — the UN body responsible for monitoring the elimination of all forms of discrimination against women. Her work in these spaces has focused on advocacy, research, legal assistance, and active engagement with issues at the intersection of gender, social justice, and international law.

She has contributed to reports submitted to the Constitutional Court of Colombia (amicus curiae) and to the CEDAW Committee through the Legal Clinic of the University of Valencia. Her doctoral research examines legal strategies for advancing reproductive justice before international protection mechanisms.

Her main areas of expertise include civil law, consumer law, public transportation, gender, women’s rights, sexual and reproductive rights, international protection mechanisms, the Inter-American human rights system, and the strengthening of civil society organizations.
